LOUTRA POZAR

In Loutraki in the prefecture of Pella and 13 km west of Aridaia, there are the mineral springs Loutra Loutraki or Loutra Pozar with their water having many healing properties including long-term ailments and it is drinkable. It is suitable for bath therapy and positherapy or for stimulation and relaxation.

It has been known since ancient times with legends, but also some other findings, that talk about the use of the thermal waters, both in the time of Alexander the Great and during the Roman and Byzantine periods.

The thermal springs of Loutra Loutraki spring up at an altitude of 360-390 m. along the bed of Thermopotamos or Rema Nikolaou, which continues its course in the Almopia basin. Springs are created by rainwater that seeps into the ground and reaches a great depth, then heats up, rises higher, and along the way is enriched with minerals and other ingredients.

The waters were declared thermal in 1920, with a temperature ranging from 26°C to 37°C depending on the source, and contain dissolved minerals such as sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, radium, iron, iodine, phosphorus and sulphur, or gases such as carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulphide, nitrogen oxygen and hydrogen with different degree of acidity and acidic or alkaline or neutral.

The hammams or habouzes are the oldest buildings of Loutropolis with closed natural pools in which the thermal waters bubble up through the stones. They are the first closed space used by visitors and continue to operate to this day but with upgraded facilities.

The Community Enterprise that has taken over the management of the Baths makes continuous efforts to improve the services as well as the renewal and maintenance of the facilities. The Baths of Loutraki - Pozar operate all year round with the number of people constantly increasing.

Outdoor Swimming Pool

The pool has dimensions of 25 x 13 m and a depth of 1.30 m. up to 2.80 m. suitable for healing, sports, entertainment of all ages. It is fed with thermal water at a temperature of 37° C, with the exception of very hot summer hours when cold water is added. The thermal pool is available to guests in winter from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm, while in summer it is open from 7:00 am. until 10:00 in the evening. At a nearby point from the pool, there is a refreshment bar - cafe in a beautiful and natural environment, as well as a playground for the little guests.

Loutropolis Loutra facilities

They are organized in a small spa town, where it operates all year round, with hotels, swimming pools, changing rooms, restaurants, and bars, offering every possible service to the visitor. There are two hydrotherapy centers in the spa town, with the first operating since 1960 and including 48 individual baths, 2 indoor pools measuring 3m by 7m. height of 1.50 m and 1.65 m and a capacity of 12 people. The facilities of the hydrotherapy center are completed by two individual hammams - springs with a capacity of 6 people. From the end of 2005, the operation of a new hydrotherapy center with six (6) individual pools and artificial waterfalls with a capacity of six people each began.

Waterfalls
In the area of the Baths there are external natural waterfalls with thermal water inside the riverbank, in which the visitor can bathe both for health reasons and for recreational reasons.

Jacuzzi and spa
Jacuzzis and spas are in separate rooms. The water supply to them is under pressure and the thermal, hot water is constantly renewed. Their capacity is for one or two people.

Bath therapy
The therapeutic properties of the water are recommended for rheumatism, arthropathy, sciatica, bronchitis, for nervous, gynecological and dermatological diseases as well as diseases of the circulatory and respiratory system.

Positherapy
Positherapy is suitable for diseases of the liver, kidneys, bile, digestive, circulatory and urinary systems, as well as for chronic colitis, gastritis and cholecystitis.

In the area around and near Loutra Pozar you will find many accommodations for your stay (hotels, rooms for rent, guesthouses, furnished apartments, of various types and categories. The nearest areas are Loutraki and Orma. For your entertainment there are many catering businesses ( taverns, restaurants) and cafes.
